FAU research team investigates how AI can support student counselling

Can artificial intelligence (AI) give students valuable suggestions for their further studies? How can universities and colleges introduce AI-based support systems that are accepted and promote student diversity? The research project “Individually recommended? – How AI-based advisory systems affect student diversity” (ADVICE) at FAU. It is funded with almost 145,000 euros by the Volkswagen Foundation as part of the programme “Artificial Intelligence – its impact on tomorrow’s society”.

When the keyword “artificial intelligence” is mentioned, many people first think of the technical implementation in autonomous driving or intelligent robots. “However, we would like to use AI in a completely different area, namely to advise students individually,” says Prof. Dr. Karl Wilbers, Chair of Business Education and Human Resources Development. “What effects this has on students and their diversity, whether artificial intelligence is accepted in this field, and what effects this has on society, is the focus of our research project.” Read on…
