Conference “Information – digitally packaged”

Library work means to provide information services against the background of new technical possibilities and increasing information abundance. Digitization is creating new tasks and fields of activity in scientific libraries. The Zurich Central Library is therefore expanding its continuing education program from 2021 to include the CAS program “Data Management and Information Technologies”.

Our interdisciplinary conference “Information – digitally packaged” will kick off with contributions from academic libraries, information science, computer linguistics and digital humanities. Among them is the lecture on “Vom Bild zu tausend Worten. Erschließung historischer Bildwerke und Computer Vision” by Prof. Dr. Peter Bell on 22.09.2020. We would like to discuss together with our lecturers which perspectives the digital change opens up for libraries in cooperation with research.

With “The perfect storm – challenges for research libraries in the coming decade” by Torsten Reimer from the British Library in London, we are also looking forward to a high-profile Library Science Talk on September 22.

Due to the current corona situation, the conference will take place purely virtually. The zoom link for participation will be sent to the registered persons. Registrations are still possible.

We are looking forward to an exciting conference and the – albeit purely virtual – exchange with the community.

Lena Oetjens, Luzia Roth and Katja Staub
